BACKGROUND STORY
There is probably no country where tradition and modernity clash more sharply than Japan. The Yakuza have been the world's largest criminal organization since the 17th century. The 8-9-3 Yakuza represents the worst hand in a card game, considered worthless.

Criminals, dishonorable, yet celebrated as heroes by the people for protecting disadvantaged families. A Yakuza can be recognized by their colorful, traditional tattoos. A hand with one or more severed fingertips depicts the ritual "Yubitsume." If a member has committed a crime, they must cut off a fingertip of their own as atonement.
